Look on the bright side, at least the chairs didn’t fall off the cable !
Only heard of one falling off once, happened to a coworker of mine with the chair directly in front of him on a groggy, hung over morning. Needless to say it got his attention!

Unfortunately, in many states, ski areas are held to a very low level. You would think that best practices would dictate that critical connections be torque checked at regular periods and safety wired - if not by law then by the interest of running a safe operation.

CA legislature recently passed a bill holding areas to some degree of accountability. Their governor vetoed it.

It's the insurance companies that put the most pressure on resort management and owners to load test their lifts at the beginning of each season. They load 55 gallon barrels full of water on to the chairs and run the lifts fully loaded for certification. Wondering if that was actually done after stringing the chairs and opening for business..

Yeah. I am actually looking at it more globally. At one time the auto industry didn't want to talk about safety. Now it is a selling feature for most non-performance vehicles.

Likewise the ski industry doesn't do simply things like publish their safe plans, because the they would have to adhere to them.

Watch for more on this global topic in summer 2018. from a 501c(3).
